This morning I was thinking about Liberty, and how it applies to our country. The definition of Liberty (according to Dictionary.com) is:
1. Freedom from arbitrary or despotic government control.
2. Freedom from external or foreign rule; independence.
3. Freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice.
4. Freedom from captivity, confinement, or physical restraint:
(The prisoner soon regained his liberty)
5. Permission granted to a sailor, especially in the navy, to go ashore.
6. Freedom or right to frequent or use a place:
(The visitors were given the liberty of the city)
7. Unwarranted or impertinent freedom in action or speech, or a form or instance of it.
This not only grants the individual the rights stated therein, but also provides the same rights to the individual states. However, going directly against the intent of the Declaration of Independence, our federal government continually passes laws, and creates committees and policies that completely ignore this critical document. As stated in the first definition of liberty above we are to be free from arbitrary or despotic government control. Let’s look at the word arbitrary first. The definition from Dictionary.com states that this word means “subject to individual will or judgement without restriction; contingent solely upon one’s discretion.” Okay, how about we look at the word despotic. Despotic means “of, relating to, or of the nature of a despot or despotism, autocratic, tyrannical”. The word autocratic means, “of or relating to a ruler who has absolute power.” And the word tyrannical “unjustly cruel, harsh, or severe; arbitrary or oppressive; despotic.”
Wow, powerful words; and words that our present leaders disregard on a daily basis. With back alley deals, volumes long bills that cannot realistically be read or understood prior to a vote needing to be held, and Presidential Executive Orders, our liberties are taking a literal punch in the gut. And you know who is to blame in the end? Look in the mirror, for we have let this happen by giving our legislators carte blanc to do what they want. How are we doing this you may ask yourself? By using excuses like, “I don’t have time to look at all the issues,” or “I trust that they will do the right thing.”
My fellow Americans, it is time to step it up and get involved! Our country is in a downward spiral. We need to stop the current trend and stop the direction we are going. We have a great country! Don’t let it be flushed down the toilet.
The American Party of the United States has felt the sting of discontent and disinterest. We are currently rebuilding our great party, and we want you to be a part of it. Get involved in your local area. Start a state party where you are. Let us help you. If we are going to reverse the current trend we need to band together and fight for what our Founding Fathers gave their lives for. And for what so many men and women have fought to keep for two hundred and thirty years.
We are having our National Convention on May 6-7, 2016 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kansas City, Missouri. We hope that you can show up and get involved. Our numbers are small right now, but we are growing. We need you to help take the fight nationwide.
National Chairman of the American Party of the United States.
